Baguio City exec asks neighboring Benguet communities to join in the flower fest

BAGUIO CITY –Mayor Mauricio Domogan is asking the chief executives of the municipalities around this city, which comprised of the BLISTT area (Baguio-La Trinidad-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay), to align their town events with the month-long Baguio Flower Festival (BFF) or Panagbenga (blooming season).

Domogan said the festival alignment will not only benefit Baguio City but also the neigboring municipalities due to its share in the tourism business.

“BLISTT member municipalities will also benefit from the BFF if their activities will also be conducted during the Panagbenga,” Domogan said as he admitted that this has been proposed in the past but officials at that time gave it a “cold shoulder”.

He explained that the neighboring municipalities can benefit from the influx of tourists during the Panagbenga if their events will be scheduled on days where there are no BFF activities.

La Trinidad is known for its scenic strawberry and flower farms while Tuba and Itogon are known for their hot springs and trekking destinations.

On the other hand, Sablan is known for its scenic waterfalls and fruit plantations while Tublay is known for its caves.

Domogan said provincial activities may also be aligned with the BFF which may also be promoted at the same time as the Panagbenga.

In the recent past, Benguet municipalities and other provincial delegates participated in the opening and street dancing parades of the festival to enhance tourism in the participating municipality or province.

Domogan, being the executive committee (ExeCom) chairman of the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc (BFFFI) is also extending the invitation to the out-of-town participants stating that their participation will continue to draw the interest of the locals and visitors.

He expressed optimism that officials of these municipalities will consider the long-standing proposal as this can sustain the growth of the local tourism industry and contribute in spurring economic development of the BLISTT communities. Jojo Lamaria/PNA-northboundasia.com
