PNP chief ready to be jailed if Ombudsman proves he committed graft

MANILA — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Monday said that he is ready to be jailed if the Office of the Ombudsman (Ombudsman) has proven that he has committed graft.

This was the reaction of the PNP chief on the investigation being conducted by the Ombudsman on the alleged admission of Dela Rosa that he was invited and given a free trip to Las Vegas, Nevada (United States) to watch the boxing fight of Senator Emmanuel Manny “Pacman” Paquiao last Nov. 5 (US time).

Dela Rosa said that sees nothing wrong in accepting the invitation of his close friend, Paquiao, who “foot the bill” for the all-expense paid trip to the United States.

The PNP chief said that if ever he would be jailed, at least, he made his family happy and that it was not through corruption.

When asked whether the move of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales to have him investigated was “politically-motivated,” Dela Rosa said that he has high regard to the Ombudsman whom he knew was just doing her job.

Dela Rosa urged that there should be a fair interpretation of the law in the investigation of the case. Perfecto Raymundo/PNA-northboundasia.com
