LEGAZPI CITY — Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal on Friday commended eight-year-old Trump Luistro of this city for giving honor to the country by hauling six gold medals in an invitational swimming competition in Tokyo, Japan last month.
Rosal, in an interview today, said the medals Luistro brought home after competing in the swimming event at St. Mary’s International School in Tokyo last October 22 and 23 have brought so much pride to the country.
Gigi Luistro, Trump’s mother, said her son, a Grade 3 student of the Legazpi Hope Christian School, placed first in the six swimming events where he competed.
She said Trump competed in the 8-year-old under category in the 25-meter freestyle, 25-meter breast stroke and 25-meter butterfly events on the first day of the invitational meet while on the second day, he competed in the 50-meter freestyle, 25 meter breast stroke and 100-meter individual medley.
Trump was up against competitors from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, China and US, said his mother.
Gigi said Trump’s first international competition was at the swimming championship at Singapore Island Country Club on August 6 and 7 where he earned five medals.
She said before Singapore, Trump had joined local swimming competitions in Bicol, National Capital Region, Aklan and some areas of Mindanao.
Gigi said that her son started his swimming career at the age of 5 when he joined the Mayon Swimming Club.
She thanked Rosal and Governor Al Francis Bichara for the financial support given to Trump for the competition in Japan. Emmanuel Solis/PNA-northboundasia.com
