Clandestine shabu lab in Isabela dismantled, 2 operators killed

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP), in cooperation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), dismantled a clandestine shabu laboratory and killed two drug suspects in Cauayan City, Isabela.

PNP Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Monday said that the shabu laboratory is high tech. In fact, according to PDEA, this facility is capable of producing a minimum of 200 kilos per cycle which covers one week and maximum of 400 kilos per cycle.

“So you can just imagine if every week it can produce 400 kilos, the distribution of this will be widespread,” Dela Rosa said.

The PNP chief noted that unlike the shabu laboratory discovered in Arayat, Pampanga, the one which was discovered in Isabela, has already produced and had made test production.

Dela Rosa said that the surveillance of the drug facility started December last year jointly by the PDEA, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Police Regional Office-2 (Cagayan Valley).

For his part, Cagayan Valley Police Director Chief Supt. Gilbert Sosa said that after a three-month painstaking intelligence-driven operation of PRO-2, in cooperation with PDEA Special Enforcement Service, PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Group Special Operations Unit 3, Regional Intelligence Division-PRO 2, Isabela provincial police office, Cauayan City police, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Isabela and Regional Intelligence Unit 2, scored anew in its relentless campaign against the proliferation of illegal drug trade in the region by dismantling a clandestine shabu laboratory in Cauayan City, resulting in a firefight and death of two oriental-looking drug personalities.

A search warrant issued on Sunday afternoon by Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 97 Executive Judge Bernelito Fernandez was implemented against Kim Punzalan Uy with aliases “Kim”, “Atong Lee”, “Lo Chi”, “Chua” and “Lung” of No. 101 Prenza, Maharlika Hi-way, District 1, Cauayan City Isabela.

Another search was issued by the RTC on Sunday afternoon against the same personalities in Rose Marie Reyes St., District 1, Cauayan City, Isabela.

The simultaneous implementation of the two search warrants was jointly conducted by composite teams composed of operatives from the PNP and PDEA.

The implementation of the search warrant in No. 101 Prenza, Maharlika Hi-way l, District 1, in the said city resulted in a firefight between the composite assaulting team and suspects that led to the instantaneous death of Kim Punzalan Uy and another unidentified oriental-looking male personality.

Recovered from the crime scene were voluminous chemical precursors and essential chemicals, laboratory equipment and apparatus used in the manufacture of methampetamine hydrochloride or “shabu”, one caliber .45 pistol with live ammunition, one 9mm machine pistol, one beige Toyota Hi Lux with plate no. ABB-3553 and assorted documents.

Likewise, recovered pieces of evidence in Rose Marie Reyes St., Cauayan City, Isabela were one revolver.38 with six ammunition, four shotgun shells, one colt defender pistol with two magazines and five ammunition for cal .45.

Uy, who was confirmed operating a clandestine laboratory in Cauayan City is a known drug syndicate member with connection to Mike Lee, Ahong and Atong Drug Groups that actively engaged in the proliferation of illegal drugs in the Philippines.

Sosa stressed that “this accomplishment proves the unremitting dedication and support of the (Cagayan) Valley cops to the flagship program of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte embedded in the nationwide anti-illegal drugs campaign through Chief PNP’s (Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa) Oplan Double Barrel.” Perfecto Raymundo/PNA-northboundasia.com
