Ilocos Norte declared under state of calamity

LAOAG CITY — Ilocos Norte officials on Friday declared the province under a state of calamity after strong winds and heavy rain accompanying Typhoon “Lawin” destroyed more than PHP 673.49 million worth of crops, roads, bridges and dikes.

Except for one casualty who died of hypothermia and one injured due to a broken glass, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported most of the damages were on infrastructure next to agriculture and livestock.

In Pinili town, at least seven houses were totally damage including 61 partially damage houses due to howling intense winds that blew off house roofings.

At least 2,450 families or 8, 757 individuals who evacuated to safer grounds before typhoon Lawin made a landfall in Cagayan province are now back to their homes.

The Department of Public Works and Highways also reported a hundred percent clearing operations along the Manila North Road while the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative has yet to fully restore power services in the two cities and 21 municipalities here. PNA-northboundasia.com
