TUGUEGARAO CITY — The Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) today deployed rescue teams from the police, the military and the disaster risk reduction management office to the province’s identified flood prone areas and pre-positioned relief goods for the possible effect of the incoming typhoon “Lawin.”
Provincial information officer Rogelio Sending said the council has deployed rescue teams in several areas in Cagayan that are mostly flooded due to fast-rising waters from the river as a precautionary measure and to avoid casualties in times of calamities,
Teams are deployed in Tuguegarao City, Penablanca, Enrile, Solana, Iguig, Tuao, Amulong, Gattaran, Lasam, Lal-lo, Buguey, Sta. Teresita, Calamanuigan and Aparri.
Sending said the PDRRMC has also pre-positioned relief goods for residents who will be affected by the incoming typhoon in the coastal towns of Sanchez Mira, Sta. Ana, Abulog, Gonzaga and Calayan island.
Typhoon “Lawin” has intensified further while traversing the Philippine Sea. It is expected to intensify further before making landfall.
Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 700 km diameter of the Typhoon.
It expected to make landfall over Cagayan Area by Thursday early morning (Oct. 20) then it will cross Apayao and Ilocos Norte. By Friday early morning (Oct. 21), “Lawin” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). PNA-northboundasia.com
