LUNA, Apayao — As Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 is hoisted over the province, the Apayao Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has cancelled all scheduled activities in the province’s area of responsibility within this week as a precautionary measure.
In a memorandum issued today, Tuesday, by Provincial Administrator Vincent Talattag, in his capacity as Co-Chairman of the Apayao PDRRMC to all local government units, national line agencies and others concerned are advised to stay vigilant and be ready for the incoming Super Typhoon “Lawin” which is expected to hit this northern part of Luzon.
Upon the recommendation of the PDRRMC, Acting Assistant Schools Division Superintendent and Office-in-Charge Amador Garcia of the Schools Division Office of Apayao under the Department of Education, Cordillera Administrative Region has indefinitely postponed the 2016 Apayao Provincial Athletic Meet for the safety of athletes, coaches and officials concerned.
Garcia said in a Tuesday advisory “the rescheduling of activity shall be decided upon by the proper authority later after Typhoon Lawin leaves the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
According to the weather bureau, Typhoon Lawin is expected to make a landfall by Wednesday or Thursday over Cagayan or Isabela area.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned the cyclone may develop into a super typhoon while raising Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 4 is also possible.
As of this posting, Apayao is included among the six provinces in CAR which are under the potential risk areas where moderate to heavy rains are expected. PNA-northboundasia.com
