SAN FERNANDO CITY — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 1 has warned of flash floods and landslides over all areas, including the province of Pangasinan, covered by Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals (TCWS) due to typhoon ‘Karen’.
OCD said ‘Karen’ is expected to traverse the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac on Sunday morning before exiting the country’s landmass via Pangasinan in the afternoon.
Pangasinan is currently under TCWS No. 3 along with the province of La Union.
Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts were advised by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG and the PNP Maritime Group not to venture out over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.
Mike Sabado, OCD information officer, said all major roads in Region 1 are still open except Kennon Road which was preemptively closed for the safety of motorists.
However, he warned of the coming of another tropical storm with the international name of “Haima” which is expected to enter the eastern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday.
Meanwhile, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has separately announced that the scheduled qualifying examination for the Junior Level Science Scholarship set on Sunday is cancelled due to the typhoon’s onslaught. PNA-northboundasia.com
