3 of 4 armed men killed in Pangasinan encounter

MANAOAG, Pangasinan — Three of four armed men killed in an encounter with elements of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and the Manaoag police in Barangay Pao, Manaoag dawn of Friday were already identified.

The three were identified as Rodrigo Batucan of Olongapo City, Edwin Ignacio of Bataan and Tommy Miranda of Laguna.

They were tagged as members of a big carnapping and hijacking syndicate operating in Region III and Metro Manila.

Senior Supt. Ronald Oliver Lee, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan police, said the suspects first robbed a Centrum gasoline station just before the town proper of Manaoag

They were heading east when the vehicle they were on board was intercepted by policemen manning a checkpoint along the road leading to Laoac town in Barangay Pao, where the encounter happened.

Found near the bodies of the dead suspects were two caliber 45 pistols, one Cal. 38 revolver and a crown bar.
