REINA MERCEDES, Isabela — Thousands of mourners have been queueing at the house of a late former congressman to take last glimpses at his remains in Labinab Grande village here.
Former Rep. Santiago Respicio, a three-term congressman who served from 1987 to 1998, died at the age of 85 on Sunday in Metro Manila due to complications on his illnesses. His remains were brought to Isabela on Thursday.
Respicio, a lawyer by profession, also served as vice governor from 2001 to 2004. Dy Jr. and Respicio later lost to Padaca in the 2004 elections.
“He is a political leader in Isabela, whether in legislative and executive branches,” his townmate, provincial board secretary Manuel Santos said.
In 2006, he was responsible in the filing of complaint against former Governor Maria Gracia Cielo Padaca which led in the filing of graft charges against her and four other officers of the Economic Development for Western Isabela and Northern Luzon Foundation Inc., a non-government organization.
