Police to continue war on drugs beyond deadline, says spokesman

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will not back down from its campaign against illegal drugs even after the deadline set for the total elimination of the drug menace in the country.

”The PNP is focused on the task of waging war on drugs, criminality and internal cleansing, as ordered by the President in the given period, whether it’s six months, one year or six years,” PNP Public Information Office (PIO) chief and spokesman, Sr. Supt. Dionardo Carlos, said in a press conference on Monday.

”We will continue this campaign on orders of our Commander-in-Chief and PNP Chief, Dir. Gen. Ronald dela Rosa,” he added.

President Rodrigo Duterte said Sunday he wants to extend the intensified campaign against narcotics for another six months, given the severity of the problem.

Carlos said police efforts to combat illegal drugs and criminality will continue, along with the cleansing of PNP ranks.

Quoting dela Rosa, Carlos said they will never allow the drug lords to win in the government’s all-out war against illegal drugs. PNA/northboundasia.com
