LINGAYEN, Pangasinan —- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) maintained that no drug laboratory exists in any place in Region 1 but called on residents to remain vigilant so any attempt to put up such will be nipped in the bud.
PDEA Regional Director Jeoffrey Tacio revealed that most drugs filtering into Region 1 come from the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon and Region 4 A.
It is in these regions where the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation and the PDEA busted several clandestine drug laboratorieshe said.,
He said during the Provincial Drugs Summit initiated by Governor Amado Espino III here that illegal drugs coming into the Philippines used to originate from China until the drug syndicate decided to manufacture illegal drugs in the country with the intention to export some of these to other countries.
He admitted that illegal drugs are transported here by either plane, ro-ro (roll on, roll off) and ships.
Though PDEA maintained that there is no drug laboratory in Region 1, it remains on high alert.
Together with the police, PDEA searched a piggery in Asingan as well as two poultry farms in Laoac. The PNP also conducted an inspection of the premises of the aborted Lingayen Eco-Tourism Zone and the near by pile of blacksand but found no drug laboratory.
Tacio recalled that it was only in 1999 that some 400 kilos of illegal drugs from a foreign country were landed in Infanta, Pangasinan.
Saying that the situation is now quite alarming as the youngest drug user is six years old and the oldest is 78 years old, Tacio called on the people to support the campaign against illegal drugs to save the nation.
He said some 700,000 drug pushers and users have already surrendered to the police nationwide.
“The campaign against illegal drugs is not the concern of the PNP and PDEA only but the entire Filipino people who care for their future,” Tacio said. PNA/northboundasia.com
