MANILA – National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Dante Gierran denied links with Senate witness Edgar Motabato, who claimed that he worked with the NBI Chief for 15 years.
“I know Motabato as witness but he has never been a part of my work before in Davao, “ Gierran said Friday.
Gierran served as the NBI Regional Director for Davao Region before succeeding former NBI Director Virgilio Mendez.
“It’s not true. I’ve been with the NBI for 26 years, and in these long years, I have been conducting myself in such ways that I give everyone his due, perform my job with honesty, objectivity, and fairness,” he said.
He also surmised that there may be a “hidden agenda” in dragging his name in the extrajudicial killings probe since there are people who are envious of his appointment as NBI director.
During Thursday’s hearing of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, Matobato alleged that President Rodrigo Duterte was behind the Davao Death Squad and had ordered extrajudicial killings when he was still mayor of Davao City. PNA/northboundasia.com
