ZAMBOANGA CITY -– Three of the five alleged members of syndicated crime group behind the killing of a village official and injury of a businessman were killed in a hot pursuit operations on Wednesday in Isabela City, Basilan province.
Senior Supt. Shepard Reyes, Basilan police director, identified the slain alleged members of crime syndicate as Daud Anjawani, Jerome Anjawani and a certain Marcos.
Reyes said the suspects were killed in a shootout around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near a cemetery in Barangay Lanote, Isabela City.
Reyes said the shootout ensued as the three suspects fought back the pursuing policemen.
He said two of the suspects’ companions managed to escape.
He said the slain suspects were allegedly behind the killing of Omar Asahad, the newly-proclaimed barangay chairperson of Mebak, Sumisip, Basilan.
Asahad’s businessman-friend, Hairuddin Tahir, was wounded during the incident that took place on Monday in Purok 5, Barangay La Piedad, Isabela City.
