MANILA) — Typhoon “Ferdie” maintains its intensity and continues to threaten Batanes Group of Islands, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tuesday afternoon.
PAGASA has issued tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) no. 4 over Batanes Group of Islands, and warned that the impacts of the wind may cause very heavy damage to high-risk structures. Storm surge is also possible at coastal areas.
“Ferdie” was last eyed at 260 km east of Basco, Batanes. Estimated rainfall amount is moderate to heavy within 600 km diameter of the typhoon.
It has a maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center, and gustiness of 250 kph.
PAGASA said residents of northern Luzon should take precautionary measures against the impacts of very strong winds and heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, TCWS no. 3 was issued over Babuyan Group of Islands.
Ilocos Norte, Apayao and northern Cagayan were put under TCWS no. 2.
The rest of Cagayan, northern Isabela, Kalinga, Abra and northern Ilocos Sur are under TCWS no. 1.
