Female drug addict gunned down in La Union

CABA, La Union – A 31-year old lady listed as illegal drug user was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Barangay Santiago here Sunday night while an 11-year old boy sitting nearby was hit by stray bullets and was seriously injured.

Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado Jr., provincial police information officer, identified the fatality as Melanie Carbonell, who surrendered recently to authorities, while the boy was identified as Jeofrey Domingo, age unknown, both residents of the village.

Ordinado said Carbonell suffered gunshot wounds on various parts of her body and was declared dead upon arrival at the Caba Medicare Hospital while the boy was brought for treatment at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City.

It was learned that Carbonell was doing something outside here residence when the suspects, arriving in tandem on a red motorcycle, shot her several times and sped away.

It was not known whether a police operation has been launched for the arrest of Carbonnel’s killers.

Meanwhile, Ordinado disclosed that La Union policemen recovered over the weekend some 20 marijuana bricks, weighing 11.5 kilograms and worth P632,500 at a makeshift in sitio Bay-o, Barangay Sasaba, Santol, La Union.

Ordinado said an improvised molding machine, a hydraulic jack and a weighing scale used for packaging marijuana were seized by the joint personnel from the La Union Provincial Intelligence Branch, Provincial Public Safety Company, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
