BAGUIO CITY –- The Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is on a “white level” alert status since typhoon “Ferdie” is not affecting the city as hard as Kalinga and Apayao provinces which are under storm signals 1 and 2, respectively.
Glenn Lardizabal of the BCDRRMC on Tuesday said the “white level” alert is the “standard monitoring mode” of the council.
Lardizabal said the conduct of the Community Action for Disaster Response and Emergencies (CADRE) Trainings is timely.
Twenty one barangays in Baguio City were identified as “highly landslide prone areas” and are the focus of the CADRE Trainings administered by the BCDRRMC.
Glenn Lardizabal explained that Baguio City, in general, is a “landslide prone” area but there are areas considered as priorities.
The villages identified were Asin, Atok Trail, Bakakeng Norte, Bakakeng Sur, Baguio General Hospital (BGH) Compound, Burnham Legarda, East Quirino Hill, Happy Hallow, Happy Homes, Holy Ghost Extension, Lower Quirino Hill, Middle Quirino Hill, Middle Rock Quarry, Pacdal, Pinget, Pinsao Pilot, San Antonio Village, San Luis Village, Santo Tomas Proper, Upper Quezon Hill and West Quirino Hill.
The CADRE training aims to enhance community response by giving additional technical inputs on managing emergencies in the workplace and community.
Eventually, Lardizabal said all 128 barangays in Baguio City will undergo the same training where between 20 to 30 barangays. PNA/northboundasia.com
