Kin of ex-DA chief nabbed in buy-bust operation

MANILA — The sister-in-law and niece of former Department of Agriculture (DA) Proceso Alcala and Quezon (2nd District) Rep. Vicente “Kulit” Alcala were arrested in a buy-bust operation at Leveriza Subdivision, Barangay Isabang, Tayabas City Sunday night.

Quezon provincial police director Sr. Supt. Antonio Yara on Monday said that seized from Maria Fe Alcala, 60, and her daughter Toni Anne Alcala, 40, were 24 pieces of medium heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu weighing 115 grams valued at Php 212,750, Php 100,000 marked money and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Maria Fe Alcala is the wife of Athel Alcala, who is the brother of the former DA Chief and Rep. Kulit Alcala.

Athel Alcala has earlier surrendered to authorities after the warrant of arrest was served to him in connection with the cases filed against him for his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.

His wife and daughter were arrested by authorities in a buy-bust operation Sunday night.

Yara said that Toni Anne Alcala has long been in their list of drug pushers and they consider her as a “high value target”.

However, investigation showed that the mother and her daughter are both involved in drug pushing.

The Quezon provincial police office is now readying the filing of three cases for violation of Sections 5 or drug pushing, 11 or possession and 26 for collaboration or conspiracy of Republic Act No. 9165, or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002”, against the two suspects.
