MANILA — Foton Pilipinas defeated Chinese Taipei in the final day of competition of the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship on Sunday to settle for seventh place.
American import Lindsay Stalzer scored 18 points as the Tornadoes beat their opponents, 25-17, 30-28, 25-23, in one hour and 33 minutes of action before 1,734 spectators at the Alonte Sports Complex in Binan City, Laguna.
Ariel Usher had 15 points while Abigail Mariano and Jovelyn Gonzaga contributed 10 and 11 points, respectively, for Foton Pilipinas.
Chiu Ya-Hui scored 13 points for the Taiwanese squad, which ended its campaign in the 12-nation tournament with a 1-6 win-loss record.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Sarmayeh Bank outplayed Vietnam’s Thongtin Lien Vien Post Bank, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23, to salvage fifth place.
Maedeh Esfahani Borhani led the Iranian squad with 15 points, followed by Famoosh Sheikhi with 13 points and Mahsa Saberi with 10 points.
Do Thi Minh scored 11 points from attacks and had two blocks for the Vietnamese team, which bagged sixth place.
