Zambo City urges public not to spread text hoax on impending terror attack

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The city government has advised the public to avoid circulating unverified text messages which may cause panic and confusion.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar issued the advice after text messages informing of an impending attack have massively circulated in this city.

The text message circulated after the Sept. 2 bombing in Davao City that killed 14 people and injured 67 others.

“These text messages should be verified through hotline 062-117 or ZCPO (Zamboanga City Police Office) 166,” Salazar said.

“Let us remain vigilant at all times and cooperate with authorities as the police and the military are exhausting best efforts to keep Zamboanga City safe utilizing all land, air and sea assets,” she added.

She urged the public to report to the authorities the presence of persons acting suspiciously, unattended baggage or items including vehicles to help thwart terrorism.

She said the city government in coordination with the police and military is doing everything possible to ensure safety and security in this city.

She also advised the officials of the 98 barangays including barangay tanods and volunteers to do their share in providing security to the people through close coordination with the police chiefs in their respective areas of jurisdiction. PNA/northboundasia.com
