Region 1 police forms Task Force “Sancatrapos”

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, La Union — Police Chief Superintendent Gregorio R. Pimentel, Police Regional Office 1 director, has ordered the creation of Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) “SACATRAPOS” to conduct special investigation relative to the shooting to death of an intelligence officer in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

Chief Supt. Pimentel said Police Officer 3 Fernando S. Sacatrapos Jr., 40 years old,married, a resident of Barangay 15, Sta. Rita, Paoay and Intelligence PNCO (Police Non-Commissioned Officer) of Paoay Municipal Police Station was shot by an unidentified gunman on board a motorcycle along the road in Barangay 3, Salbang of said town.

PO3 Sacatrapos was on his way to Paoay MPS riding his motorcycle after he attended the Barangay Information Network (BIN) Training in Calipi, Batac City when the incident happened at around 12:30 p.m. on September.

Pimentel said revenge can be the possible motive of the killing considering the participation of these personnel in the stern implementation of anti-illegal drugs campaign in Paoay town.

“Our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family and PRO1 is also grieving for thedeath of this dedicated and virtuous intelligence personnel. On our part, we will do our best to give justice to PO3 Sacatrapos. We admit that in the fulfillment of our job, we are facing clear and present danger especially in the fight against illegal drugs,” Pimentel said.

Sacatrapos was the second police personnel of Paoay Municipal Police Station killed by unidentified perpetrators following the assassination of PO3 Nestor A. Sadian on December 30, 2015. PO3 Sadian was the Chief Investigator of said town police station and was believed also killed for revenge.

SPO1 Joel S. Javier, the intelligence officer of Bantay police station in Ilocos Sur was also shot on August 23, 2016 in Balaleng, Bantay but fortunately survived the incident.

Meanwhile, Chief Supt. Pimentel appealed to the public for their support and report to the police any information related to illegal drugs operations to include the groups who are trying to shield the drug syndicates. PNA/northboundasia.com
