SAN ISIDRO, Isabela — Close relatives of a slain Army official mourn for his death in a clash with Abu Sayyaf Group bandits in Sulu recently.
2nd Lieutenant Ernan Gusto, 33, a resident of Gud in this town has grown up and known for his kindness and clean living.
Gud barangay captain Reynaldo Hope, the soldier’s cousin, said they were shocked upon learning Gusto’s demise.
“We are lonely for his untimely death but we accept his fate because we understand his work as he is a soldier defending the country,” Hope said.
The parents of Gusto traveled to Metro Manila for the remains of their soldier son.
Gusto had been in military service for seven years. He has a wife and two children.
Among the other reported slain soldiers are Sgt. Jay Erwin Almohallas, SSgt. Ruel Catubay, Corporals Ronald Galloniga, Omar Raddulan and Saik Mandangan; Privates First Class Nestor Bacaling Jr., Jison Falcasantos, Gerald Yubal, Dhendo Dujo, Roselito Arnoco, Glend Cosicol Resma and Rogelio Vincoy Jr.; and Pvt.
