Barangay captain shot dead in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Two unidentified men shot and killed the barangay captain of San Isidro, San Nicolas, Pangasinan on Tuesday at 9:10 a.m. in Barangay Libertad, Tayug, according to the police.

The victim was identified as Reynel Carpio, 49, who was shot with caliber 9mm and caliber .45 pistols as evidenced by nine fired cartridges, two slugs and one live bullet found by investigators at the crime scene.

The slaying might have been related to illegal drugs, especially after policemen found one sachet of suspected shabu from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, three other persons were also shot dead by unidentified gunmen — one in Dagupan City and two in Urdaneta City. These incidents were also believed connected with illegal drugs.

Killed at 5:30 p.m. of Aug. 30 at a vacant lot in Sitio America, Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City was Anthony Gonzales, 33. He was shot to death by two unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle.

Earlier, Gonzales was riding at the back of a motorcycle driven by his unidentified companion when they noticed they were being tailed by two unidentified armed men riding in another motorcycle.

Gonzales suddenly alighted from the motorcycle and scampered toward the south direction while his companion sped off to an unknown direction. He was pursued with gunfire by the assailants until he eventually fell to the ground. The victim sustained gunshot wounds in the head and back and was declared dead on the spot by the city health officer.

Shot dead at 3:50 p.m. of the same day at the entrance of AGL Heights Subdivision, Zone 6 in Nancayasan, Urdaneta City was Anthony Mejia, alias “Pultot,” 46. The victim was driving his passenger motorized tricycle when two unidentified suspects on board a green sedan type vehicle opened fire at him successively which resulted in his instantaneous death.

Meanwhile, Emjohn Adams, alias “Banong,” 32, was driving his Hyundi Starex van along the barangay road of Sitio Las Vegas, Barangay Bayaoas, Urdaneta City, when he was shot by two armed men riding on a motorcycle at 3:50 p.m. of Aug. 30.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was brought to Urdaneta City Sacred Heart Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. PNA/northboundasia.com
