MANILA — Chair of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, said Tuesday that discussions on the complaint filed against Senator Leila de Lima will be kept confidential.
Sotto said that this way, the case will not suffer from “premature” publicity.
Before the Senate panel met to discuss the case against their fellow senator on Tuesday, Sotto said members will still review their copies of the complaint and make jurisdiction afterwards.
A complaint was filed by lawyer Abelardo de Jesus against de Lima in relation to her culpability in the reported illegal drug operations inside the New Bilibid Prison.
De Lima said she has not yet seen the complaint and would rather wait for the Ethics Committee’s take on the matter.
“I have not seen that complaint yet, but I’m pretty sure it’s just again one of those harassment tactics that’s being hurled against me. I’m being subjected to a lot of these harassment tactics,” the neophyte senator said.
“They have been destroying already my character, my reputation. They’re trying to break my spirit but they will never succeed,” she added. Azer Parrocha/PNAnorthboundasia.com
