Suspected drug personality shot dead, two others wounded in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — A suspected drug personality was killed and his companion was wounded in Bolinao town while another drug personality with a pending case of rape was shot and wounded in Lingayen on August 26 and 27, a report of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) on Sunday stated.

Meanwhile, land dispute was believed the motive behind the gunslaying of a 67-year-old man in another incident in Poblacion, Lingayen on August 27, where an 18-year-old boy was hit with a stray bullet.

Killed in Barangay Lambes, Bolinao at 6:50 p.m. of August 26, was Reynaldo Abungan Sr., 49, who was the backrider of a motorcycle driven by one Pecson VIllanueva, 38. The two are fishermen on board a motorcycle while proceeding to catch fish when unidentified armed men ambushed and opened fire on them.

Abungan was hit in different parts of his body and died on arrival at the Bolinao Community Hospital. Villanueva suffered bullet wounds in the cheek and leg and survived the incident.

The police report stated that both were allegedly involved in cattle rustling and charged for theft as well as listed as drug personalities in the town.

Recovered from the crime scene were four fired cartridges of ammunition from a Cal. 5.56 M-16 rifle.

Meanwhile, unidentified armed men riding in tandem on a motorcycle shot and wounded Edgar Aquino, 45, at 10 a.m. on August 27 on Alvear II street in Barangay Maniboc, Lingayen. He suffered gunshot wounds in the right arm and right stomach and is now being treated at the Lingayen District Hospital.

The police theorized the motive of the shooting as possibly revenge as the victim had a pending case of rape ready for filing, aside from being in the police drug watch list.

In a separate incident, land dispute was tagged as the motive behind the gunslaying of one Edgar Soriano, 67, by unidentified armed men riding on a motorcycle at 6:28 p.m. of August 27 on Sales Street in Poblacion, Lingayen.

The victim was walking towards the public market from his home when the gunmen stopped beside him, then shot him in the body. The bullet went through and through, hitting one Joey Cruz Jr., 18, in the left leg.

Soriano was rushed to the Lingayen District Hospital but was transferred to the Region 1 Medical Center where he died while undergoing treatment.
