Girl, 5, dead when hit by bullet meant for her grandfather

DAGUPAN CITY — A family in Dagupan City is now crying for justice after their five-year old girl was killed in their house at Sitio Kamanggan in Barangay Mayombo here when she was hit by a bullet fired by armed men intended for her grandfather before noon Tuesday.

The girl, Danica Mae Garcia, a kindergarten pupil of the East Central Integrated School, was then taking a bath when the gunmen arrived and immediately opened fire on the girl’s grandfather, Maximo Garcia, alias “Ama”, 53, but the bullet instead hit Danica.

The girl sustained one gun shot wound in the face and died on the spot. Maximo, however, managed to escape by running at the back of their house. He was nevertheless chased by the gunmen. He is now recuperating in an undisclosed hospital.

The family said the armed men arrived at their house while Maximo and one of his children were having lunch. It is unclear whether the elder Garcia was involved in illegal drugs.

The Garcia family is now seeking justice for the death of Danica.

The suspects escaped on board their motorcycle parked earlier in front of the house of the Garcias. PNA/northboundasia.com
