ROME, — The number of confirmed casualties after the earthquake in central Italy has reached 38, the country’s Civil Protection service said Wednesday.
According to Civil Protection spokeswoman Immacolata Postiglione, the number of victims is expected to rise as a large number of people is considered missing.
The 6.1-magnitude earthquake, which hit central Italy at about 03:36 local time (01:36 GMT) Wednesday, resulted in serious damage and civilian casualties across the region.
