LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — A teenager drowned while another went missing in separate incidents in Pangasinan on Friday while they were swimming in swollen rivers a day after the onslaught of heavy monsoon rains, police reported.
The first victim who drowned at around 1:20 p.m. on Friday was Bernard Parayaoan, 15, a Grade 9 student, who drowned while swimming with friends along a swollen river stream near them.
Investigation showed that while they were swimming, Parayaoan’s friends noticed that he disappeared, prompting them to call barangay officials who conducted immediate search and rescue operation.
The victim was found 10 minutes later and was rushed to the Virgen Milagrosa Medical Center in San Carlos City where he was declared dead on arrival.
Meahwile Wilson Boado, 17, a poultry farm attendant, of Sto. Tomas, La Union, went missing while swimming with a fellow worker on the same day at around 1:30 p.m. along the swollen Abenoleng River in Brgy. Macayug, San Jacinto, Pangasinan.
His co-worker Jesson Mendoza, 19, said they were swimming when the victim allegedly allegedly swam to the deeper part of the river but was carried away by strong current.
Personnel of the San Jacinto police immediately conducted search and rescue operation for possible retrieval of the victim’s body but failed to locate him up to this time. PNA/northboundasia.com
