SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Former La Union 2nd District Representative Thomas “Butch” Dumpit, Jr,. vehemently denied involvement in the establishment of the shabu laboratory in Barangay Bimmotobot, Naguilian town which was busted by authorities on July 2008.
Mr. Dumpit, Jr. a native of Naguilian, said he was planning to file charges against his accuser. In an affidavit he submitted at Camp Crame last week, Mayor Reynaldo Flores named the former lawmaker as mastermind in the operation of the shabu laboratory.
In a statement he gave to the Media, Mr. Dumpit, Jr., affirmed his privilege speech in Congress in 2008 tagging Flores as the alleged protector of one of the biggest shabu laboratories at that time.
He said he was studying the implication of Pres. Duterte’s narco-list if it can be used as a basis to indict the narco-mayors and find probable cause for the eventual filing of cases in court.
“We should take advantage of this golden opportunity to file cases against these narco-mayors. The shame-list is just the start and we should follow thru until its conclusion and there should be no turning back,” Dumpit said.
Dumpit, Jr. said he has been declaring war against narco-politics since 2008 but no one listened to him. ‘However, with President Duterte’s declaration of war on narco-politics and drug lords, Dumpit felt he was already vindicated.’
Flores, together with Mayor Martin De Guzman of Bauang town, Mayor Dante Garcia of Tubao town, and former Congressman Eufranio Eriguel, all denied their involvement in any illegal drug activities after they were named by Duterte in his narco-list.
Flores said he thanked Duterte for naming him as the number one mayor in his list because it gave him the opportunity to tell everything about the facility including the mastermind.
“Because of the shabu laboratory, my name was dragged in bad light. However, the President made me an instrument for the reopening of this case to find out the real mastermind on the shabu laboratory. I am very positive that the truth will come out. The investigation being done now against me after I was named in the President’s list already reopened the case,” he said.
Flores said he already provided all the information he knew about the illegal facility which was contained in his affidavit he submitted to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Camp Crame.
He said that aside from former Police Superintendent Dionicio Borromeo, the convicted lab protector, there are still bigger personalities behind the illegal activity. Jun Elias/northboundasia.com
