La Union Mayor denies link in illegal drugs

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Mayor Dante Garcia of Tubao town vehemently denied any involvement in illegal drug activities, saying whatever wealth he has comes from his construction firm and other legal businesses.

Garcia was named by President Duterte as among four alleged La Union narco-politicians–Bauang Mayor Martin de Guzman, former Second District Representative Eufranio Eriguel and Naguillian Mayor Reynaldo Floresca.

“I never sell or protect anyone from this illegal activity. I may be suspected of coddling the No. 3 person in the regional drug watch list because, Salvador Marzan alias “Amang” is from my town. But I have written the National Bureau Investigation about “Amang.”

Garcia. who went to Camp Crame last Sunday to clear his name, disclosed that agents of the NBI and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group from Manila raided the house of Amang here the suspect escaped arrest “because there are alleged influential persons protecting him.”

“I am open for any investigation because my conscience is clear,” Garcia said.

De Guzman, Flores and Eriguel have yet to release their respective official statement on their being linked to the illegal drug trade.
