BAGUIO CITY –- The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) bagged Php895,330 worth of illegal drugs in 29 anti-illegal drug operations conducted between January and June in line with the call of President Rodrigo Duterte to fight the sale and use of illegal drugs in the country.
In a report, BCPO Chief PSr. Supt. George Daskeo stated that the operations resulted in the arrest of 47 drug personalities and 27 of them were already charged in court for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
In June, 24 police drug personalities were arrested in the execution of “OPLAN Eagle Claws” of the BCPO as part of its strategies against illegal drugs.
In July, 40 more drug personalities were arrested and 25 cases of violation of R.A. 9165 have been filed in court with a total of PHP196,062 worth of illegal drugs confiscated.
The BCPO arrested a top drug personality in the Cordillera Region on July 28 and confiscated 8.6 grams of “shabu” valued at PHP51,600; one cal .45, airsoft gun; assorted ammunition and drug paraphernalia.
Daskeo said focus crimes in Baguio City decreased by 25.33 percent or by 55 incidents in July against incidents in June, proving that the persons involved in crimes are also involved in drugs.
The concerted effort of the BCPO as well as all stakeholders in the fight against illegal drugs resulted in the voluntary surrender of 686 drug personalities who signed their pledges of commitment to stop their drug dependency and trade. PNA/ northboundasia.com
