Indonesia closes airport on Lombok due to volcanic activity

JAKARTA — Indonesian authorities on Monday closed an airport on Lombok due to volcanic activity at the island’s Mt. Rinjani, while some airlines canceled or diverted flights to and from the neighboring resort island of Bali due to volcanic ash.

The Transport Ministry’s official Twitter account said the Lombok International Airport was closed from 4:55 p.m. and may reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Eruptions at the 3,726-meter volcano last November similarly led to temporary closure of the airport. PNA/Kyodo/ northboundasia.com
