SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte — Another suspected drug personality was gunned down at about 7:40 pm on Friday, making him the third that was killed in a week, police report said.
Tagged as one of the top drug personalities in this town, Andres Pasalo alias “Daris,” was shot in a police encounter when the victim was subjected to a buy bust operation in Barangay San Marcos here.
During the buy bust operation, the report said the suspect recognized the poseur-buyer as a member of the Philippine National Police hence, he drew a caliber .38 revolver and fired at him. The police, however, was not hit and the police back up shot the suspect.
Pasalo was immediately brought to a nearby Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital in Batac City but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician.
In an intensified drive against drug personalities, acting provincial director Jose Melecio Nartatez of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office has urged all concerned drug personalities to surrender now that they still have time and change for the better.
“With or without a directive, we will go after drugs. And with the support of the entire community, we are very optimistic we can be successful in eradicating drugs,” Nartatez reiterated.
During the July 25 State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte, he reiterated his commitment to go after criminality, illegal drugs and corruption as one of his priority agenda.
In his speech, Duterte called on the PNP, heads of local government units from village chairmen, mayors, governors and all other concerned authorities to be on top in this campaign.
“Double your efforts, triple them, if need be. We will not stop until the last drug lord, the last financier, and the last pusher have surrendered or put behind bars or below the ground, if they so wish,” Duterte said. PNA/northboundasia.com
