Pangasinan officials hail President Duterte’s passionate SONA

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Government officials in Pangasinan hailed the strong and passionate first State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo R. Duterte on Monday before the joint session of Congress.

Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III, regional director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region 1 and former councilor of Dagupan, said the SONA of President Duterte was delivered straight from the heart. “You can easily relate to his message. No such passionate speech was ever seen by me from the past presidents.”

Mayor Danilo Uy of Sison, Pangasinan described the President’s SONA as “okay and practical.”

On the other hand, Abono Partylist Congressman Conrado Estrella III, said, “I strongly believe he will deliver.”

At the same time, Councilor Aldrin Soriano of Mangaldan town views the SONA as “entertainingly sharp.”

“I believe that President Rodrigo Duterte has delivered a strong, sympathetic, and entertaining SONA. It was strong because of his emphasis on the fight on illegal drugs in the country and how he plans to solve the conflict in Mindanao through ceasefire,” he said.

Despite the presence of some Church leaders, the President stated the importance of the reproductive health law. He also plans to solve traffic congestion and flooding in Metro Manila which has not been solved by previous administration. He also maintained the award by the Permanent Court of Arbitration on the South China Sea dispute, said Soriano.

He added the SONA is sympathetic because it showed how passionate the President is for the poor particularly when he stated his plans for the environment and the plight of fishermen in Laguna Lake who do not have any fish to harvest. He also shows care for those who are applying for licences by proposing to extend the validity of driver’s license and passport.

Summing it up, Soriano said: “It was an entertaining SONA — a President who refused to follow the prepared speech and gave comments almost every after paragraph.”

He said the accomplishment President Duterte has narrated in his first SONA within his 26 days in office and also the high trust rating given by Filipinos give us high hope on how he could deliver as the highest leader of the country.

“The challenge is on how he could keep up with these high expectations of his fellow Filipinos,” he said. Johann Margarette Macob/PNA/northboundasia.com
