Presidential daughter skips pa’s SONA, husband to represent first family

DAVAO CITY — Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio regretted she will not be able to attend President Rodrigo Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) but husband – lawyer Manases Carpio will represent the first family instead.

This was announced by Mayor Sara’s Chief Information Officer Jeffrey Tupas on Monday morning.

“She will not able to attend the SONA is something that the mayor deeply regrets as she wants to be with the President during this very important occasion and proud moment for the Filipinos and the Philippines,” Tupas said in a press statement released to the media on Monday.

Tupas confirmed that the mayor together with her husband left Davao on early morning Monday for the SONA and to represent her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, and her brothers Vice Mayor Paolo and Sebastian.

Tupas said that upon the mayor’s arrival in Manila early morning Monday, Sara went to St. Luke’s Hospital for a medical check-up and she was advised to have a complete rest at least for a couple of days by her doctor.

“But there is nothing to worry. The mayor is doing well now,” said Tupas, who however did not detail the mayor’s medical circumstances.

Though absent at the event, Tupas said the mayor has reiterated that the President’s SONA should detail how the promise of change made during the campaign will be fulfilled, and how this promise can eventually create meaningful changes and developments in the lives of the Filipinos and the Philippines.
