Ilocos drug leader falls, 2 Pangasinan drug peddlers arrested – PDEA

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — A top drug leader in Ilocos Sur was killed while two known drug peddlers in Pangasinan were arrested in an intensified anti-narcotics operations by joint forces of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 1 and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

PDEA RO1 and the local police officials of Ilocos Sur stormed the heavily fortified house of Roger Cinco at Barangay Pug-os, Cabuagao, Ilocos Sur in the early morning of July 19 to serve a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Marita Balloquing, Branch 20 in Vigan City.

PDEA Region 1 Director Geoffrey Tacio said after identifying themselves as law enforcers, five suspects inside the house barred the doors and escaped through a secret passage at the back of the house, not knowing that a blocking force was already posted in the outskirts of the house.

Cinco and his cohorts opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing the latter to shoot back, hitting Cinco on different parts of his body.

Cinco’s companions panicked and escaped to different directions but were pursued by the law enforcers.

He sustained three gunshot wounds while his caliber .45 pistol he used in the gunfight was confiscated. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

PDEA agents found several drug paraphernalia, including a caliber 38 revolver, 45 caliber pistol, live ammunition and a plastic sachet containing shabu.

On the other hand, in the morning of July 15, PDEA Region 1 agents stationed in Pangasinan, together with the PNP, served another search warrant issued by RTC Judge Caridad Galvez of RTC Branch 43 in Dagupan City in a house in Barangay San Miguel, Calasiao, Pangasinan and arrested one Dennis Gavino, also known as “Kabayan”.

At least nine grams of shabu and several drug paraphernalia were found in his residence, along with PHP130,000 cash believed to be his earnings from the illegal drug trade.

Aside from facing a case for violation Section 11 and 12 or the “Possession of Illegal Drugs and Possession of Equipment, Instrument, Apparatus and other Paraphernalia for Dangerous Drugs” under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, additional charges were filed against Gavino for illegal possession of firearms.

Meanwhile, a buy-bust operation last July 18 led to the arrest of a 46-year-old tricycle driver from Urdaneta City, who is a known drug pusher as well as user. Vicente Alhambra, Jr/northboundasia.com
