BAGUIO CITY –- Gaudencio Gonzales, the Sports Development Officer for Baguio City on Thursday, July 14, said the installation of solar panels for the city’s swimming pool is beneficial to the city in terms of power consumption.
Gonzales confirmed that three foreign-backed companies – two Korean and one US – submitted proposals but nothing has been finalized.
The solar panels, as proposed, will only provide power for the water heater of the swimming which is equivalent to a savings of at least, PHP300,000.
Gonzales said the swimming pool generates about PHP200,000 a month which will prove that the installation will be beneficial to the city government.
Gonzales explained that maintenance of the solar panels will not be a problem as these may be replaced one after another considering the “wear and tear” factor of the equipment.
Gonzales said the improvements at the Baguio Athletic Bowl are being prepared in time for the “Palarong Pambansa” in 2018 which ultimately house playing fields for “Sepak Takraw” and Archery.
These infrastructure improvements will be implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The infrastructure improvements is a provision in addition to the legislative measures prepared by the City Sports Development Council (CSDC).
At present, an incentive ordinance is being implemented for athletes who will compete in the regional, national and international competitions.
In a press conference on Wednesday, July 13, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the installation of the solar panels at Burnham Park is still a proposal and nothing has been considered for bidding regarding the project. PNA/northboundasia.com
