LAOAG CITY — Ilocos Norte Provincial Director Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. vowed continuous efforts of the local police here to significantly reduce drug-related activities, in response to the new administration’s call to fight against criminality.
A report from Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO) reveals that a total of 315.48 grams of shabu and 5.20 grams of marijuana amounting to Php1,893,386.05 have already been seized from January to June this year.
In the same period, a total of 170 drug personalities in the province have already been arrested through various buy-bust operations, raids and search warrants.
Nartatez noted that the rise of the number of arrested drug personalities is an indicator of an improved peace and order situation in Ilocos Norte.
He also stated that the occurrence of crimes, including physical injury, robbery and rape, in the province was reduced to an average of five cases in a week, compared to their previous record of 15.
“Bumaba ang occurrence of crimes kasi ini-increase natin ang crime solution efficiency natin. ‘Pagka may nangyari, sinisigurado ko na maimbestigahang mabuti, ma-identify at mapilahan ng kaso,” Nartatez explained.
In addition to their various arrests and drug operations, INPPO continuously conducts anti-illegal drug campaigns in the schools and barangay level to ensure holistic participation of the community. PNA/northboundasia.com
