LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Reelected Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos who will be on her third and final term as chief executive of the province will lead the provincial mass oath-taking ceremony of local officials tomorrow, June 28, at the Plaza del Norte Convention Center in Paoay.
The lady governor started serving the province in 2010. By the end of her first term, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) had recognized Ilocos Norte as one of the least poor provinces in the country. The provincial poverty rate also fell from 24 percent in 2010 to 8.4 percent in 2015.
She instilled youth empowerment and involvement through her flagship program for the youth, “Sirib Express,” which garnered a Galing Pook Award in 2015. It soon transformed into an official Capitol youth department called the Ilocos Norte Youth Office, and yielded the Sirib Ilokano Kabataan Association, a youth volunteer organization with over 9,000 members.
Since 2011, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) has provided over 2,925 college, 843 technical-vocational, 13,006 high school, and 31,884 elementary scholarships.
These, in addition to her efforts for promoting tourism, renewable energy, as well as the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in the province, earned Governor Marcos two consecutive Outstanding Governorship Awards from Superbrands Marketing International Inc. in 2015 and 2016.
Joining Marcos in tomorrow’s inauguration are reelected Congresswoman Imelda R. Marcos and Vice Governor Eugenio Angelo M. Barba, as well as the different city officials of Batac and Laoag; municipal mayors, vice mayors, and councilors; and provincial board members.
There will also be a special portion of the program for the 2015 Local Legislative Awards for the awarding of Philippine National Police (PNP) officers for their outstanding performance in the conduct of the 2016 elections. PNA / northboundasia.com
