MANILA, Philippines – Former Senate president Ernesto Maceda is now in critical condition at St. Lukes Medical Hospital due to complications after an operation two days ago.
In a radio DZRJ report, Maceda’s son Atty. Erwin Maceda also denied some website reports that his father has passed away at the age of 81.
Erwin, however, said the former lawmaker was clinically dead and that life support was still connected “to keep his body warm” while waiting for other children from abroad.
The younger Maceda said the family would come out with an official announcement at 9 p.m. Monday night.
The former senator served as Senate president from 1996 to 1998 under the administration of former President Fidel V. Ramos.
He became Philippine ambassador to the United States from 1998 to 2001. Jelly Musico/PNA/northboundasia.com
