MANILA, Philippines – Outgoing Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. and his successor Martin Andanar on Monday assured a smooth sailing transition of leadership of the communication office of Malacanang, comes June 30.
”Rest assured that starting June 30, pag-take over po ng grupo naming dito po sa PCOO ay lahat po ay magiging smooth sailing,” Andanar said in a joint press briefing after the two met at the New Executive Building of Malacanang Palace.
Andanar said he and Coloma have been constantly communicating since June 2 when incoming President Rodrigo Duterte announced Andanar’s appointment.
”Today is our second formal meeting but almost every day we been communicating through text. So there is no problem because Sonny Coloma is a good professor,” Andanar said.
”This is just part of our coordination to assure seamless transition. Ang palagi kong tinatalakay sa kanya ‘yung kahalagan na bigyan kayo, ng mga kagawad ng media, ng napapanahong impormasyon dahil ito ang mahalagang tungkulin na ginagampanan ninyo dito sa Tanggapan ng Pangulo at sa Palasyo ng Malakanyang,” Coloma, for his part, said.
Andanar said he also discussed with Coloma about his plan to rename the PCOO to PCO – Presidential Communications Office.
Coloma explained that the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) was renamed as PCOO “to unify and integrate all of the offices.”
Under the PCOO are communication and news organizations of the government that include: Philippines News Agency (PNA) under News Information Bureau, Bureau of Broadcast Service or Radyo ng Bayan, Philippine Information Agency, Bureau of Communication Service, PTV-4, National Printing Office, APO Production Unit, and Radio and Television Malacanang.
