Shootout between two rival gangs leaves 2 dead, four hurt

LEGAZPI CITY — Two suspected robbers were killed and four others were wounded in a shootout with another armed group at a wake of a man in Sitio Tambobo, Barangay San Andres, Balud, Masbate at about 9 p.m. Saturday.

A police report reaching Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola here said dead on the spot were Joel A. Catalan, 27 and a resident of Sitio Tambobo, Barangay San Andres, and Darie B. Dalinog, 28 and a resident of Barangay Ilaya, Balud.

Both had standing warrants of arrest for cases of robbery and theft in Balud.

Wounded and rushed to the Balud Municipal Hospital and Masbate Provincial Hospital were Jesus A. Catalan, 24 and younger brother of Joel; Jessie B. Astorias and Aser Villalobos — both residents of Barangay San Andres; and Nilo A. Delfin, 27 and resident of Barangay Mabuhay, Balud.

The report said the group of Catalan was in the wake when the gang of Dalinog, Delfin and three unidentified men came and suddenly peppered Catalan and his companions with bullets.

Catalan’s men fired back, hitting Dalinog and Delfin.

Members of the Balud Municipal Police Station were still looking into the possible motive as of press time while still hunting the three companions of Dalinog who fled after the firefight. PNA/northboundasia.com
