Baguio gears for 2nd national earthquake drill on June 22

BAGUIO CITY -– The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) here is preparing for the second quarter earthquake drill on June 22, 2016.

Re-elected Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, in a memorandum, ordered all local DRRMCs to conduct and participate in the earthquake drill to instill preparedness and awareness to the city’s constituents.

This is in line with the 2nd Quarter 2016 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) being enforced by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through National DRRMC through Memorandum 2016-83 issued on June 15.

In the memorandum, Domogan said “the drill aims to familiarize the people with the “duck-cover-hold” technique and evacuation plans and procedures and at the same time, test the city’s preparedness for the possibility of a powerful tremor.

This will also test our preparedness in the implementation of the city’s incident command system,” Domogan added.

On March 31, the local government of Baguio City conducted a citywide earthquake drill dubbed as ‘Baguio City Shake Drill’ where the different sectors involved themselves to attain the objectives enumerated by the NDRRMC.

Local DRRMC chairpersons including school DRRM coordinators and DRRMC officers are required to submit an ‘after-activity-report’ indicating their assessment and recommendations regarding their response capability based on their contingency plans for earthquake. PNA/northboundasia.com
