TAYTAY, Rizal -– One was killed and twenty-nine others were injured, three of whom in critical condition, when a 10-wheeler truck smashed into 21 other vehicles and plowed into the frontage of the flea market near the McDonalds Food chain on Rizal Avenue here shortly before noon on Tuesday.
The names and details of the victims are not immediately known as of press time.
Initial investigation shows that the still unidentified driver of ten-wheeler truck (RHT 994) lost control of the steering wheel as the brake malfunctioned.
Taytay police detained the driver for further investigation as charges are being filed against him for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to properties.
Reports from the Taytay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and the Rizal Provincial DRRMO to the Calabarzon Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the regional police headquarters (PRO4A) said that Taytay Rescue team, Barangay Dolores rescuers and the nearby Angono, Rizal MDRRMO responded to the incident.
The victims were taken to the Manila East Medical Center, Taytay Emergency Hospital and the Rizal Provincial Hospital Angono annex.
