BAGUIO CITY – The leadership of the Department of Health – Cordillera Regional Office (DOH-CAR) announced that several special days will be observed in the month of June.
The DOH-CAR personnel, led by Director Amelita Pangilinan, in a press conference on Thursday said that the National Kidney Month would be observed this month; including the World Blood Donor Day on June 14; the National Patient Safety Day on June 25; the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 and the Poison Prevention Week starting on June 22 until June 26.
Dr. Loida Hora, Consultant of the Department of Radiology and Maria Tarhata Chan, Patient Safety Nurse of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) discussed the newest multi-faceted nursing program, safety for patients.
There are scheduled lectures at the BGHMC on June 25 with a slogan-making contest, Hora said.
The series of lectures will include details and precautions in taking care of and transport of patients in the hospital, upon entrance up to discharge.
Chan, on the other hand said the ideal number of patients to be cared for by a nurse is 12, and one nurse to three patients in critical care.
The poison prevention week will be launched on June 22 to 26 simultaneous with the program “Bantay Kalusugan para kay Lolo at Lola”.
The agency will conduct lectures on proper handling of medical dosages for the elderly.
Pangilinan is hopeful that incoming President Rodrigo Duterte implements the “one physician in one barangay” policy.
Pangilinan said a health worker is a necessity in a barangay, especially in the far-flung areas, she said.
