SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija — Two persons, including a drug convict, were killed in a firefight with combined forces from the Nueva Ecija police provincial office in Barangay Rizal this municipality Tuesday.
Police identified the fatalities as Oliver Bartolome, listed as no. 1 in the illegal drugs watchlist in nearby Jaen town who was sentenced Tuesday to life imprisonment by the Gapan City Regional Trial Court for drug trafficking and a certain Warlito Panghilinan.
Senior Supt. Manuel Cornel, Nueva Ecija police director, said Bartolome was on bail but failed to attend the promulgation on that day thus, the court issued a warrant for his arrest.
“He was then a fugitive,” police said.
Cornel said the duo were killed in a dragnet set up by elements of San Leonardo and regional police operatives upon receiving information on a running gun battle between them and elements of the provincial intelligence and Jaen police station.
Investigators recovered from the area two cal. 45 pistols, one cal. 22 revolver and ten plastic sachets of shabu and other paraphernalia, Cornel added. PNA/northboundasia.com
