AGOO, La Union – A P1-M award is now being offered for any information on the identities of the suspects responsible for the bombing incident on April 30 that killed the driver of 2nd District Representative Eufranio Eriguel and injured three of his close-in security aides.
Eriguel told The Northbound Philippines News Online that the additional P500, 000 reward has been raised by concerned citizens who want a speedy resolution of the incident to give justice to the death of Jovanne Cacayuran, the driver, who died at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City from head injuries caused by shrapnel.
The three injured victims – Senior Police Officer 2 Jack Baguan, Eriguel’s police escort, Samuel Ofiaza and Anthony Casem – are now recuperating from serious injuries.
“There are supporters who raised additional P500, 000 making the reward up by P1-million so that those who can identify the perpetrators will be given enough funds for their cooperation in the
solution of the case,” Eriguel said.
Eriguel said investigators have traced the owner of the motorcycle where the bomb was mounted and detonated by remote control.
“However, investigators have yet to identify the mastermind behind this very cruel and violent act which caused not only the death of my supporter, but more so, sow terror on the people of La Union,” he said.
“We are willing to give the amount to anyone who can identify the person or persons who masterminded the attempt on my life and the death of our driver. We urge you to please go to the police for any leads that would direct to the suspects,” Eriguel said.
Senior Supt. Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, disclosed that Eriguel, a supporter of Vice President Jejomar Binay, was the target of the bombing.
The explosion occurred 50 meters away from Eriguel’s house in Barangay Santa Barbara while the lawmaker was on his way to a campaign sortie. A backup car carrying the four victims was severely hit, but partially damaged Eriguel’s vehicle. Jun Elias/northboundasia.com
