BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar — Celebrities and relatives of well-known personalities in Eastern Samar have expressed support on the candidacy of Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos.
Reelectionist Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres Gomez, and her husband, actor Richard Gomez, who is running for mayor of Ormoc City, met the senator on Sunday. He said that he had been a supporter of the Marcoses since the snap elections in 1986, where the senator’s father, Ferdinand Marcos ran for reelection.
“I have been a supporter of their family, I supported his father in the 1986 polls,” he said in an interview.
Gomez is running under the National People’s Coalition (NPC) while his wife is a member of the ruling party, Liberal Party (LP).
On the other hand, the local chief executive of Borongan City, Samar, who is the sister of talkshow host Boy Abunda is likewise supporting Marcos’ vice presidential bid.
Mayor Ma. Agnes Abunda, a re-electionist of the LP said that she was backing the lawmaker’s candidacy because of the good things his father had done to Region 8.
“Marcos talaga ako kasi madami natulungan at napatayo si President Marcos dito sa Region 8 katulad ng San Juanico Bridge na hanggang ngayon ay pinakikinabangan pa namin,” she said.
Abunda noted that the senator has proven his own brand of public service through the many projects he has done not only for Ilocos Norte but also for the rest of the country.
Meanwhile, Eastern Samar Governor Conrado Nicart has welcomed Marcos when he paid him a courtesy call on Monday.
The independent vice presidential candidate was greeted by around 1,000 local officials and civic leaders all over Eastern Samar at the provincial capitol.
Reelectionist Ormoc City Mayor Edward Codilla and wife, Violy are also supporting Marcos.
The mayor is running against Gomez while his wife is running against the actor’s wife in the May 9 polls.
In Maasin City, Leyte some local officials pledged their support to Marcos during the “2nd Barangay Day Celebration 2016” held in the city last Sunday.
LP’s Gubernatorial candidate Damian Mercado, Congressional candidate Roger Mercado, Mayoralty candidate Lito Mercado, and Vice Mayoralty candidate Malone Samaco all are backing Marcos’ candidacy.
Marcos, for his part, said he was humbled by the endorsements acknowledging that it is a big boost to his campaign during the homestretch.
“Bukod sa ikinakampanya ko ang aking kandidatura para Bise Presidente, ikinakampanya ko rin ang kilusan para sa pagkakaisa ng sambayanang Pilipino upang sama-sama natin mapaganda ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino,” the senator added.
