MANILA — The Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) will launch its first ever beach volleyball tour this year in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur on January 30-31.
The tournament will feature eight teams from Bacolod, Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, RTU, and BVR.
BVR co-founders Efren Gaa and Dzi Gervacio, together with some of the participating players like Abby Maraño, made the announcement Tuesday, during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) forum at Shakey’s restaurant in Malate, Manila.
BVR, an organization formed in June 2015, aims to develop and propel beach volleyball in the Philippines. It was co-founded by former Ateneo Lady Eagles volleybelles and current professional players Charo Soriano, Gretchen Ho, Fille Cainglet-Cayetano, Dzi Gervacio, Bea Tan and former Petron Blaze Spikers player Alexa Micek.
Gevacio also announced the holding of tours in Anguib Beach in Sta. Ana in February; Bacolod and Dapitan in March; and Clark and Angeles in April.
The eight teams will be divided into two groups, Group A of which is composed of teams from BVR1, Bacolod, Philippine Army and RTU 2 while BVR 2, Phillipine Air Force, Batangas and RTU 1 compose Group B.
In an interview, Bea Tan, also a BVR co-founder, said the main objective of the event was “really just pushing the sports of beach volleyball, we will promote it any way, every way so we’re going on tours in different provinces and regions, to coastal areas and introducing to them beach volleyball as sports.”
The names of the players who will participate in this tour as follows:
1. BVR 1 — Abby Maraño and Bea Tan
2. Bacolod – April Ross Hingpit and Patty Oredain
3. Philippine Army – Nene Bautista and Jovelyn Gonzaga
4. RTU 2 – Jessa Aranda and Pricilla Gail Catacutan
1. BVR 2 – Alexa Micek and Charo Soriano
2. Philippine Air Force – Judy Caballejo and and Gena Andaya
3. Batangas – Kiara Aira Pineza and Jessica Paron
4. RTU 1 – Mich Morente and Jonafer San Pedro
