‘ANG PANDAY’ TV REMAKE TO SHOOT AT FAMOUS PAOAY SAND DUNES

PAOYA, Ilocos Norte — The famous sand dunes of Paoay is not just one of the hottest tourist destinations in Ilocos Norte these days as the classic Philippine movie “Ang Panday” (The blacksmith) will again have its remake here through a television series soon to be aired at TV 5.

As the latest favorite shooting venue for filmmaking, the vast sand dunes of Paoay particularly at the Culili point overlooking the West Philippine Sea will again take the center stage on national television featuring this time the title role of “Flavio” to be played by actor Richard Gutierrez.

Panday is considered as one of the most iconic komiks creations along with Darna and Zuma.

First brought to life on the big screen by the late Fernando Poe, Jr., the original “Ang Panday” was the top grosser of the 1980 Metro Manila Film Festival and spawned three direct sequels that also starred the late, great King of Philippine Movies.

In fact, a fiber glass sculpture of FPJ stands tall at the Paoay sand dunes, which was unveiled during the province’s Himala sa Buhangin festival on May 2015.

The TV crew being assisted by the Media Incentives Desk of the provincial government of Ilocos Norte is now in Ilocos Norte for the Panday remake.

Elaine Mateo of the Media Incentives Desk confirmed Wednesday that lead actor Gutierrez and company is expected to meet with Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos on Thursday at the Provincial Capitol while shooting the Panday TV series at Culili point.

Popularized as a film tourism destination, Ilocos Norte through its Media Incentives Desk offers assistance to various film outfits in their local needs to entice them to come and film in the province. PNA / northboundasia.com
